"Last Fall, Defenders nominated the entire Black Hills as one of the most endangered sacred sites in the world with Sacred Sites International Foundation. "Nomination applications were distributed to an international panel of academics, technical specialists, cultural experts, and spiritual leaders. The panel reviewed the applications, rated each site based on criteria that Sacred Sites had developed and made their recommendations. Sacred Sites International and their Board of Directors made final decisions for the 2005 list based on recommendations made by the Review Panel."
