THE BADLANDS

In more recent times, Indigenous contact with european, american, foreign immigrants has often found "the Bad Lands" in the news. In December of 398 a.c. (after columbus, a.k.a. "1890"), a community of about 600 Lakota crossed over them to find shelter from a crazed u.s. army offshoot of a defunct (wiped out just 14 years previous at the Battle of Greasy Grass "Little Big Horn Battle") "7th cavalry", which had just assassinated Sitting Bull on December 14th. They were looking to kill any and all who spoke of Indigenous freedom and "Oyate Omniciye" democracy.

The community, whose principal spokesperson was Itacan (misnomer "chief") Si Tanka "Big Foot", sent runners into Pine Ridge Agency to attain supplies and horses for the weary travelers to complete the trek into the agency. Red Cloud told the army agent there that he "didn't want any trouble" and had nothing to do with Big Foot. Big Foot and his people were labeled in the newspapers and media as "hostiles", yesterday's version of the propaganda word "terrorist". Big Foot and his people were crossing 1889 illegal agreement (I-90 corridor) lands - territories just previously "sold out" by Red Cloud and other token, paper chiefs in an illegal "1889 agreement". The illegal congressional act and concocted "reservations" to this day continues to violate the 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie. The military was notified and Big Foot was captured and strip-searched near Porcupine, led to Wounded Knee Creek where next morning the "hostiles" were mowed down by u.s. hotchkiss guns in a planned massacre.

We demand the immediate rescinding of the nearly two dozen “medals of honor” 'awarded' to army murderers after committing genocide at Wounded Knee against unarmed, innocent Lakota upon their 1851 Treaty of Fort Laramie Homelands, in violation of Article Vi of the U.S. Constitution which states, "Treaties are the Supreme Law of the Land."

The Greasy Grass fight (a.k.a. "Battle of the Little Bighorn", "Custer's Last Stand") had marked one of the few times a somewhat "fair fight" occurred between the Lakota and u.s. government, as the government usually surprise-attacked innocent women and children in their camps while the men were on hunting expeditions. Possibly the greatest u.s. brigadier general of all times, "Custer", was soundly defeated by the makeshift DaNakota fighters - rightfully defending their 1851 Treaty Territories from the "greedy ones".

Custer was later condemned and discredited (made to look like a foolish daredevil which was furthest from the truth yet believed by the ignorant masses) in attempts to cover-up american shortcomings when it came to battling with Indigenous Red Peoples, who were capable of downing bull elk with bow and arrow - which made "americans on horses" very easy targets.

The Bad Lands also were refuge for the survivors of the Wounded Knee massacre, where victims fled to find shelter atop the well-protected "tables" and "strongholds".

THE BADLANDS

In 1992, the Lakota who were remaining on the Pine Ridge concentration/prison camp (a.k.a. "reservation") voted almost unanimously to prevent the united states government from scraping the land off of the Bad Lands for use as a "zeolite" mineral "liner" for uranium mine radioactive waste deposit ponds. The vote succeeded and the Bad Lands were spared.

Yet later when Missouri River water rights were being taken by the u.s. through a "mni wiconi" act and a referendum by the Lakota people was nearly unanimous against the water project, the tribal council - a puppet for u.s. intentions at one day attaining all Lakota lands - ignored the referendum vote and proceeded with the "act", another violation of the 1851 Treaty.

In 1934 through a unilateral "Indian reorganization act" of congress, "tribal councils" (male dominating, majority rule) were imposed on most "reservations" in the u.s. in order to facilitate government intentions upon and against Indigenous Peoples. Their ancient and tradition "Oyate Omniciye" or "Circle Meetings of The People" have been oppressed ever since.

The "Bad Lands" continue to serve as a reminder of the violation of the 1851 Treaty and the continued oppression and genocide against the Lakota People.
